女性主人公のアイディア出しのスケッチです。当初、女性主人公を登場させる話が出たときはそれほど問題なく描けると思ったのですが、考えてみたら、いままでの作品で女性の主人公を描いたことがなかったんですね。ヒロインと、女性主人公の違いに気づくのにけっこう苦労しました。これは、女性男性に限った話ではないのですが、主人公、とくにジュヴナイルものの主人公は成長劇を描くものですから、完成された個性ではいけないわけで、キャラづけの方法がヒロインやほかの登場人物とは異なります。最終的にどこか抜けた感じのある雰囲気が出た、主人公として愛されるようなデザインになったのではないかと思います。
Concept sketches for the female protagonist. At first, when it came for her introduction, I thought I wouldn't have any trouble drawing her, but when I thought about it, I had never drawn a protagonist who was female up until now. Although I recognise the differences between heroines and female protagonists, I was still very troubled. Even though this story is not restricted to women or men, because I'm drawing a coming-of-age story of a protagonist (particularly a juvenile protagonist) and a complete personality is not allowed, the method of developing her character was different from that of heroines and other characters. In the end, in place of a protagonist who gives off the atmosphere of being detached [missing some feelings], I thought about a loveable design [a design that makes you love her].

これは雑誌に掲載するイラストのスケッチの一部です。とくに女性主人公の表情や雰囲気を確認するために描きました。クールな男性主人公に対して活発で明るい女性主人公というイメージはありましたが、名前をプレイヤーがつける「P3」の主人公は自分の分身なわけです。その場合、どの程度感情を出して描くのが適当なのかを自分で確認していたんだと思います。

彼女は彼と等価値でありながら、背中合わせに存在する。彼女もまた、彼と同じ境遇に立たされる運命だが、たどる道筋は異なっている。重いものを背負っているのに、周囲や性格においては彼と対照的である。瞳を隠すように前髪を垂らしている彼に対し、髪を結い上げて顔をすっきりと出している彼女。じつは髪を下ろすと、初期ペルソナのオルフェウスのような長髪である。ローマ数字「XXII」を象ったヘアピンは２２枚のアルカナ、つまり彼女が紡ぐ絆の数そのもの。彼女の手によって特別課外活動部全員の知られざる素顔が紐解かれていくのだ。そして、自分の内に封じていたデスさえも慈愛で包み込む。生まれた子がやがて還る満月を、今宵も彼女は赤い瞳で見上げている。
Her existence is equal to his, being opposite sides of the same coin. The circumstances of their fate is the same, but the paths they pursue differ. Although burdened by important matters, both her surroundings and character are in contrast to his. His bangs hang down and conceal one eye, while she wears her hair up and shows her face clearly. Actually, if she lets it down, her long hair is much like that of her initial persona, Orpheus. Her hairpins, modeled after the Roman characters XXII, represent the 22th Arcana, thus that is who she is. By her hand, the true faces of everyone in SEES is unraveled. Even the Death sealed inside herself is bundled up in affection. Tonight, too, she looks up with red eyes at the full moon, where the child who was born will soon return.
